The All Party Parliamentary Group on Arbitrary Detention and Hostage Affairs would like to invite you to a hearing on the case of British citizen detained in Hong Kong, Jimmy Lai. The hearing will take place on 13 November, 10am - 12pm, with the exact meeting room to be confirmed ASAP.

About the event

The hearing is part of the APPG's ad-hoc inquiry into the cases of British citizens arbitrarily detained and held for leverage by foreign Governments. 

 

Jimmy Lai is a 76-year-old husband, father, and entrepreneur who founded pro-democracy newspaper and media outlet, Apple Daily and Next Digital in Hong Kong. Since 2020, Jimmy Lai has spent 1400 days in prison, most of which have been spent in solitary confinement. Under the National Security Law, Jimmy Lai is looking at life imprisonment.

 

Speakers will include:

  • Sebastian Lai, son of Jimmy Lai.
