Launch of the APPG on Arbitrary Detention and Hostage Affairs

On 8 October 2024, the APPG held its launch event. It brought together the officers of the APPG - Alicia Kearns MP, Baroness Helena Kennedy LT KC, Brendan O'Hara MP, and Tim Roca MP - with representatives from those affected by arbitrary detention and hostage taking, including Sir Bill Browder KCMG, Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, head of the international legal team for Jimmy Lai, and his son, Sebastian Lai. The event also featured video messages from Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe, the family of Ryan Cornelius, Jagtar Singh Johal, Alaa abd El-Fattah, and Ambassador Roger Carstens, the US Special Presidential Envoy on Hostage Affairs.

The event was an opportunity to set out the planned work of the APPG in the next year, and bring together families and those working on the topic.
